The Olympic Games are back, and this time they're being held in Rio de Janeiro里約熱內盧. They're a special event this year, since因為 it's the first time the games have ever taken in South America. To mark this Olympic first, here's a look back at some of the other times the Olympics broke new grounds開創新局面. Let's begin at the beginning. The first Olympic Games that we know about were held almost 3,000 years ago in Greece. They took place in the city of Olympia, which is the place that gave the event its name. The purpose of the ancient games was to honor使...榮耀 the gods-through demonstrations of strength力量, skill, and speed. The games consisted of only a few events, such as running, boxing, and horse racing, and only Greek males男性 participated參加. The first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 in Athens雅典. They included more events, and male athletes運動員 from different countries joined. Four years later, in Paris, female athletes participated in the games for the first time.
